Grand Erie Teacher Local is partnering with The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) to offer Teaching Students with Communication Needs (Autism Spectrum Disorder). This offering is a blended session, a combination of face-to-face and an online component to meet the OCT requirements of 125 hours.
The face-to-face sessions are mandatory.
The Teaching Children with Communication Needs (Autism Spectrum Disorders) Additional Qualification course focuses on the development and the implementation of program design for students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). In this Additional Qualification course, candidates will be learning within a professional network of educators who are working through a range of strategies for student success, positive behaviour supports, the importance of using visual strategies and focusing on evidence-based pedagogy to create a safe learning environment rooted in equity and compassion.
Prerequisites
- OCT member in good standing with a permanent or temporary teaching certificate
- Basic Qualifications in Primary or Junior divisions or Intermediate or Senior divisions in general studies
