The Reading Part 1 course develops the skills and knowledge that teachers need to design, deliver, and assess a comprehensive literacy program to ensure students can apply what they read; and communicate their knowledge and skills in new and varied contexts appropriately. Candidates will explore the importance of identities, cultures, backgrounds and multilingual benefits and how students use it to make sense of their world in various and diverse texts.
Course objectives include strategies to teach reading, reviewing the science of reading, supporting language use and development, various assessments and reading as an OHRC right for all students.
Prerequisites
- OCT member in good standing
- Permanent Teaching Certificate (Certificate of Qualification and Registration)
- Basic Qualifications in at least one of the following divisions:

- Intermediate
- Senior
