This course extends and deepens the concepts explored in Reading Part 1 by examining the theory and practice of instructional reading and the role of the literacy teacher as an effective literacy program lead. Candidates will explore course content through an exploration of the OHRC Right to Read Inquiry, the development of practical tasks, the examination of evidence-based practices informed by the Science of Reading.
The course provides candidates the opportunities to create rich, diverse and meaningful tasks to support students to reach their full potential as empowered readers, adopt instructional practices that work and create effective assessments that inform classroom practices.
Prerequisites
- OCT member in good standing with a permanent or transitional teaching certificate
- Successful completion of the Additional Qualification course: Reading, Part 1; and
- One year of successful teaching experience, certified by a supervisory officer.
- Submission of Certificate of Teaching Experience Form to certify experience (found in the Policies and Forms section)
