This Specialist course builds on the work of the Reading Part 2 course with a strong focus on leadership within the area of reading and bringing about a school wide change, increased student achievement and engagement. Candidates will analyze, review and interpret data to build capacity and collaborative professional learning opportunities that help close the reading gap within schools and the school board.
Course objectives include effective instructional practices, assessment strategies, mentoring and school changes, working with the school literacy teams, parents, and advocacy groups.
Prerequisites
- OCT member in good standing with a permanent teaching certificate
- Successful completion of the Additional Qualification course: Reading, Part 2; and
- Two years of successful teaching experience, with one year specific to the role, certified by a supervisory officer*

*Teaching Experience forms must be submitted to ETFO AQ (see policies and forms) prior to the start of the course. Failure to submit the necessary documents will result in the candidate being removed from the course.
