The Special Education Part 1 is the first of three Additional Qualification courses for educators focused on best practices for teaching students with special needs.
The course focuses on effectively meeting the individual requirements of students with learning differences or learning needs/ special needs by developing and implementing effective programs based on appropriate assessments. Educators utilize curriculum and Ministry documents with knowledge of student development and various strategies to ensure a positive and productive learning experience for all learners, with emphasis on those identified as exceptional. Early intervention strategies, identifying students at-risk, and following the process in the development of an IEP or the IPRC process is examined to ensure that the needs of students are met whether identified or not.
Prerequisites
- OCT member in good standing
- Permanent Teaching Certificate (Certificate of Qualification and Registration)
- Basic Qualifications in at least one of the following divisions:

- Junior
- Intermediate
- Senior
* If you have a Transitional Certificate of Qualification and Registration you are not eligible for enrollment in an AQ course.
