The additional qualification course, Teaching Children with Communication Needs (Autism Spectrum Disorders), focuses on the development and the implementation of program design for students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). In this Additional Qualification course you will be learning within a professional network of educators who are working to a range of strategies for student success, positive behaviour supports, the importance of using visual strategies and focusing on evidence-based pedagogy to create a safe learning environment rooted in equity and compassion. Course objectives include relating practice to theory, program planning, development and implementation, best instructional practices, assessment and evaluation and building a supportive learning environment for students with ASD.
- OCT member in good standing with a permanent or temporary teaching certificate
- Basic Qualifications in Primary or Junior divisions or Intermediate or Senior divisions in general studies
