The Teaching Children with Communication Needs (Autism Spectrum Disorders) Additional Qualification course focuses on the development and the implementation of program design for students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). In this Additional Qualification course, candidates will be learning within a professional network of educators who are working through a range of strategies for student success, positive behaviour supports, the importance of using visual strategies and focusing on evidence-based pedagogy to create a safe learning environment rooted in equity and compassion.
Course objectives include relating practice to theory, program planning, development and implementation, best instructional practices, assessment and evaluation and building a supportive learning environment for students with ASD.
Prerequisites
- OCT member in good standing
- Permanent Teaching Certificate (Certificate of Qualification and Registration)
- Basic Qualifications in at least one of the following divisions:

- Intermediate
- Senior
