French as a Second Language, Part 1

Ce cours vise à introduire les enseignantes et enseignants aux trois programmes du français langue seconde : le programme cadre, le programme enrichi et le programme d’immersion. Le cours parcourt les théories sur l’apprentissage d’une langue seconde, la planification selon les attentes du curriculum et les stratégies courantes pour enseigner le français en salle de classe de façon holistique, intégrée et interactive. La gestion de classe et l’évaluation feront également partie des thèmes importants du cours. La formation reflètera les normes d’exercice de la profession enseignante et de la déontologie ainsi que les politiques du ministère de l’Éducation qui sont enchâssées dans le contenu du cours. Les lectures du cours seront accessibles sur Internet et comprendront des textes audio-visuels et des textes écrits.

Prerequisites:

  • Certificate of Qualification and Registration or Interim Certificate of Qualification and Registration (ICQR) or ICQR (Limited) with the Ontario College of Teachers.
  • Basic Qualifications in Primary or Junior divisions or Intermediate or Senior divisions in general studies
  • Proficiency in oral and written French.

FSL Part 1 Proficiency Test

You must register for the proficiency test before you register for the FSL Part 1 AQ course, unless you qualify for an exemption. Please see details about exemptions below:

The following qualifications would exempt candidates from the proficiency test:

  • A bilingual certificate (from high school French Immersion)
  • Graduated from a Francophone Secondary School (official transcript required from the secondary school)
  • A major in French language, linguistics or literature (official transcript required from the post secondary Institution)
  • A B.Ed in a Francophone B.Ed program
  • DELF level B2

You will need to provide proof of one of the above before being exempt from the proficiency test.
Documentation for exemption from the FSL proficiency test can only be submitted to aqcourses@etfo.org at the time of registration.
Upon successful completion of the test, you may enroll in FSL Part 1.
